My Holy Trinity: academia, training horses, and boxing.
I’m slogging through a Ph.D. in English (generally) and rhetoric (specifically). Some days I enjoy that. I write about post-9/11 media portrayals of fear/terror through the lens of contemporary zombie flicks.
I train horses and give riding lessons at a small jumper barn situated in Cowboy Country. Most of our horses are recycled/rejected from racetracks. We teach them to do something besides running counterclockwise really, really fast.
And I box at a smelly, sweaty, gym with bloodstains on the canvas and spit on the floor (not all of it mine). It’s a stomach-wrenching, muscle-screaming, can’t-last-another-second-but-will-because-I-have-to part of my life that puts everything else in perspective.
